Keep the Music Playing

The artists that come to the Festival to entertain you (and us!) do so for free. The artists are not paid. They donate their time. And to honor the dedication and time those artists commit to the CMA Music Festival, CMA donates half the net proceeds from the event to charity on the artists' behalf.

At its inception in 2001, the program was called "Cause For Celebration!" And from 2001 to 2005, more than $800,000 was donated to more than 100 worthy causes. In 2006, the charity campaign was re-focused to channel financial resources into a single cause: music education. "Keep the Music Playing" was born, and to date more than $3.3 Million has been contributed. The 2009 contribution of $1,066,632 marks the largest gift to date.

Funds have been used to build music labs in schools and to purchase more than 2,500 instruments. Additionally, a sizable endowment to the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum's "Words & Music" program has been made. The program assists language arts and music teachers with classroom instruction. In July 2009, students from the W.O. Smith/Nashville Community School of Music traveled to Washington D.C. to attend a Country Music-themed celebration at the White House, hosted by President and First Lady Obama, all courtesy of "Keep the Music Playing."

Studies show that students who participate in the arts perform better in school and are more likely to graduate. Metro Nashville's performing arts students currently have a 98% graduation rate.

Thank you for your support of the CMA Music Festival.
